Blogging Skills 101
As a blogger, you need to bring one or more of these skills to the table. Naturally, any or all of these skills can be learned. However, odds are, you’ve got at least two of these 6 skills already – you just haven’t realized how valuable they are.
Skill #1: Story Telling
Humans are hardwired to pay enjoy good stories, and the best bloggers tap into their natural ability to tell a great tale. Whether you’re telling the story of how you failed before you found success, what you did when confronted with an obstacle, how you faced a fear or simply what you did this morning, telling stories is a great way to connect with, and entertain, your followers.
Skill #2: Teaching
Why do so many blog posts begin with, “How to…?” Because people are looking for answers to their questions and solutions for their problems. If you can clearly explain how to do something, you can teach. And by teaching, you can make a real difference.
Skill #3: Persuasion
Do you have a point of view or perspective that you’d like to convey? For that matter, do you like to be a bit controversial? Posts that take a stand, especially on a hot topic, tend to get shared on social media – a LOT. If you’re skilled in persuasion, you may even be able to change minds and bring them around to your way of thinking.
Skill #4: Curation
Assembling and organizing information is a skill you, most likely, already have. Huffington Post began as a curation site, and they are still pulling media from different sources in conjunction with creating original content.
Skill #5: Self-Expression
While you certainly have dreams, goals and desires, you undoubtedly have fears, challenges and uncertainty. By describing your thoughts and ideas, you’re letting others know they’re not alone in the way they feel. And, you can help others to overcome their challenges by showing how you’re able to conquer yours.
Skill #6: Reporting
Even if you know little about your chosen topic, it is still possible to act as a reporter for your readers. Find who the experts are and how things are done, then report your findings on your blog. A good example of this is new people are new to making money online and are writing about their journey as they progress. Report on what works for them and what doesn’t.
