Digital nomads are a new crop of employees that work from different, remote locations. The work is done almost exclusively online. Those starting on this journey, whether of their own intent or just forced by the pandemic, should understand that working from a foreign country, while being on a visitor visa is in most locations illegal. There is also an issue of insurance and taxes to be paid, both which should be factored in when making this decision.
- The Caribbean island nation of Antigua & Barbuda has announced a digital nomad visa called the Nomad Digital Residence (NDR).
- Bermuda joined the remote work visa club! Their recently released “Work From Bermuda” digital nomad visa is just an expansion of an older residency program.
- Costa Rica’s freelancer visa is called the Rentista, allowing foreigners to stay for up to 2-years, with the ability to extend it.
“Visa laws in most countries are not set up to deal with this new class of modern nomads who are living and working remotely around the world.”
